Hours after being brought to Bernalillo County by authorities, Jones was released and escorted out by his attorney Vincent Ward. When Jones was asked by reporters if he was intoxicated, Jones held a newspaper on his head to shield the rain and said nothing.
When pressed for questioning, Ward stepped in saying, “I’m Jon Jones’ attorney. He will not be making any statements at this time.”
However, Ward did make this statement when asked if Jones was remorseful:
Jon would prefer to be focusing on his job which is training for this big fight, but i can tell you Jon is going to do the right thing and we’re going to go through this process.
When asked if Jones was intoxicated, Ward declined to comment and said “We’ll have our day in court.”
Jones court time is 12 pm Pacific, and it is not known yet if he will appear or his attorney on his behalf.
The past few years have been tumultuous outside of the cage for the 27-year-old superstar.
- In 2012 pled guilty to DWI in New York and avoided any jail time
- 2014 tested positive for cocaine metabolites, just a month out before his last title defense in January against Daniel Cormier.
- Entered rehab for one day in January
- Character has been questioned by opponents as being “fake” (Cormier, Rashad Evans)
